Mets Battle Braves in Error Filled Game

Fueled by a three-run first inning and a potent offense the Bourne Braves (24-17) beat the Hyannis Mets (15-26) 7-4 in an error filled game at Mckeon Park to clinch the Western Division title.

Bourne wasted no time and struck early in the game scoring three runs with two outs in the first when a double by Robert Segedin (Tulane) scored Scott Woodward who had reached base on an error. A blooper that dropped in and was legged out for a double by Stefen Romero (OSU) and another bloop single by Raynor Campbell (Baylor) tallied two more for the Braves. A solo home run by Woodward in the fifth and a Woodward single, followed by back-to-back doubles by Kyle Roller (ECU) and Robert Segedin in the bottom of ninth tallied four more runs for the Braves.

Raul Torres (Faulkner) started the game for the Mets and was issued the loss, going six innings giving up five runs on five hits, four of them earned. With the loss Torres falls to 0-1 on the season. Scott Oberg (UConn, 1-0) picked up the win for the Braves, pitching two and two-thirds innings in relief of the starter Alex Wimmers (Ohio State, 2-0). Oberg allowed only one run on one hit on the way to his first win of the season.

The Mets fared much better at the plate tonight, with Jackie Bradley Jr. (USC) and Eddie Rohan (Winthrop) going 2-for-4 at the plate, with Rohan picking up 2 RBIs on the night. Casey Johnson (OU) picked up an RBI when on a hard hit single that scored Bradley for the Mets first run of the game in the fourth, cutting Bournes lead to two runs. Johnny Ruettiger (ASU) also picked up a hit and an RBI on the night for the Mets as Hyannis battled to come back.

The Mets look to take on the Falmouth Commodores tommorow night under the bright lights of McKeon Park in their last home game of the season.

Hyannis Blows Another Lead to Lose 8-7

Hyannis led for eight innings in this game, only to let it slip away in the ninth.
Chatham catcher Phil Pohl led off the ninth with a single through the right side. With the leadoff man on, Mark Gormley induced a soft grounder to first baseman Ryan Cuneo. With Gormley running to cover first base, Cuneo hesitated in retreating to the bag. He instead opted to flip it to Gormley who reached the bag as Oropesa, the Chatham DH, was already safe. Runners now on first and second, Chatham second baseman Tom Belza dropped down a successful sacrifice bunt, moving both runners along. Short stop Tyler Rhamatulla followed suit with a deep double to the right centerfield gap scoring Pohl and Oropesa. Gormley would get the next two batters, but the damage was already done.

The Mets would threaten in the ninth inning, putting men on the corners with two outs. However former Met Russell Brewer would get Jackie Bradley Junior to line out softly to second base for his 8th save of the season.

Kevin Brandt started for Hyannis, scattering five hits over four plus innings of work. He avoided big damage in his outing, stranding six runners in his first four innings, including a bases loaded jam in the third. Dallas Gallant relieved him in the fifth, striking out two Anglers to keep the Mets up by 2 at the time. Gallant would throw another 2 and 2/3 innings giving up 4 runs total in his 3.2 innings of work.

Hyannis scored the bulk of their runs in the first inning, putting up four runs with the help of some sloppy play and wildness from Chatham pitcher Logan Verrett. After Verrett walked the bases loaded, Bradley Jr. plated two runners with a lined single up the middle. Newcomer Andrew Manning (UAB) would reach on a throwing error by the third basemen which resulted in another two runs coming across as the throw sailed into right field.

The Mets finished their scoring in the 6th inning after they put three more across with the help of the Anglers pitchers. There were three walks in the inning, including a bases loaded walk to Hyannis DH Andrew Manning.

Mark Gormley takes his fourth loss of the season. Jesse Hahn gets his first win of the summer for Chatham.

The Mets play at Y-D Saturday afternoon.

Wareham Opens Offensive Gates on Hyannis

George Springer (UConn) hit a three run homerun in the top of the fifth inning and Blake Monar (Indiana) pitched seven solid innings to lead the Wareham Gatemen (18-15) to a 10-3 victory over the struggling Hyannis Mets (14-22) on a foggy night in Hyannis.

Seth Rosin (Minn,1-2) started the game for the Mets and was issued his first loss; going only 4 innings giving up three runs on five hits, with two of them earned. Rosin gave up a run early after Derek Dietrich (GT) hit a 1 out double and then scored after George Springer reached first on an error. Though Rosin's fastball was consistently in the low 90's his outing was anything but. After sailing through the second inning he ran into some trouble in the top of third when he dropped a ball while trying to cover first and then gave up two, two out singles, before he was able to work his way out of the inning. Rosin came out to the start the fifth inning, but gave the ball up to Jimmy Messer (UNC) before he faced anyone in the inning. Messer gave up a leadoff walk to Dietrick and a pefectly executed bunt by Connor Rowe (Texas) that Rowe beat the tag on; before George Springer hammered a three run homerun to make it 7-1.

Hyannis looked as if they were not going to go down without a fight tonight as early as the first inning when a leadoff double by Johnny Ruettiger (ASU) dropped a double under the glove of a diving George Springer. Ryan Graepel (UNC) then reached on an error, and a double that was cranked by Ryan Cuneo to the left field fence drove in Ruettiger to tie the game at one a piece. The Mets would tally two in the bottom of the fifth when Kenny Swab (Young Harris) reached on an infield single and was moved along the basepaths by a Trent Whitehead (ECU) walk, and then driven in by Elliot Soto (Creighton). Whitehead then scored on a failed pickoff attempt at third base. Hyannis would be shutout for the next four innings.

Blake Monar was issued his second win of the season, and improves to 2-3 on the season, going seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Matt Barnes (UConn) picked up his first save of the season for the Gatemen.

Notables of the game included Alex Dickerson (Indiana) who went 2-for-5 with a solo home-run and an RBI and Jake Lemmerman (Duke) and Shea Vucinich (Washington State) both picked up RBI's on the night for Wareham. On the Hyannis side Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Elliot Soto picked up an RBI on the night as well.

The Hyannis Mets look to take on the Chatam Anglers Friday night at home under the bright lights of McKeon Park at 7pm.

Mets Lose Offensive Battle

Last night at McKeon Park the Mets (12-20) were defeated 6-8 in a slugging contest with the Orleans Firebirds (18-15). Both teams made solid contact with the ball, hitting a combined total of 20 hits. More than half of the hits took place in the sixth and seventh innings, but solid contact was not the only factor that made those innings exciting.

Until the sixth inning, the Mets were ahead 1-0. Nick Crawford scored the Mets' solo run in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Graepel (UNC) and an RBI single by Ryan Cuneo (Delaware).

The Firebirds finally scored in the sixth and gained the 2-1 lead after an unfortunate series of events for the Mets. The designated hitter for Orleans, Jaren Matthews (Rutgers) led off the inning for the Firebirds. Matthews crushed a fly ball to deep left center field, that should have been a routine pop out. However, Mets' left fielder, Johnny Ruetigger (AZU) lost sight of the ball in the lights and fog, which allowed Matthews to reach second.

With their clean up batter (Alex Hassan) at the plate, the Firebirds had runners on first and third with no outs, due to a successful bunt by Riccio Torrez (AZU). Hassan crushed the ball to deep left center field. Mets center fielder, Trent Whitehead (East Carolina), tried to locate the ball, but he too fell victim to the harsh lights and glowing fog. Hassan reached third, scoring Matthews and Torrez.

The Mets responded in the bottom of the inning with their own offensive weapons. Graepel led off by reaching first on an error by the shortstop. Cuneo followed with a solid single to right field. Dustin Harrington (East Carolina) then tied the game with a double that scored Graepel. The go ahead runs were then driven in by Dan "Mini van" Burkhart ( Ohio State) with a single to right field.

With two outs and runners on first and second (two singles by Reuttiger and Bradley Jr.) Whitehead ripped the ball down the first base line. His hustle brought him to third and the Mets scored their fourth and fifth run of the inning, giving them a 6-2 lead.

In the seventh, Mets' pitcher, Kevin Moran (Boston College) loaded the bases with a single and two walks. Moran then hit a batter for the a run scored. Moran was replaced by Chris Haney (Dallas Baptist). Before Haney even threw one pitch, the head umpire warned both benches after a few words were exchanged between Haney, the batter at bat (Hassan) and the Firebird's dugout.

With two runners on the base and in the presence of tension and high emotions, Hassan sent a bullet to right center field. Hassan reached second on a throwing error and one run scored. Hassan crossed home plate two batters later when left fielder, Kevin Muno (San Diego) hit a double just over Ruetigger's head. Then on Muno's attempt to steal third the catcher, Burkhart, threw the ball away in his effort to get Muno out. Muno scored on the missed opportunity for out number three and the Firebirds went up 8-6, which was the final score.

The loss was issued to Moran. The Mets look next to take on Brewster tonight in a double header.

Whitecaps Hold Mets in the 9th to Win 1-0

Matt Lojan (San Francisco) pitched 6 scoreless innings and four Brewster pitchers contributed to a combined shutout as the Brewster Whitecaps (12-15) beat the Hyannis Mets (12-18) 1-0. Defense proved to be the decisive factor in tonights game, as both teams had outstanding pitching and executed defensive plays perfectly, while struggling at the plate equally.

It looked as if the Hyannis Mets would lead off the scoring when Dustin Harrington (ECU) hit a single to lead-off the bottom of the second, followed by a Eddie Rohan (Winthrop) single. Kenny Swab (Young Harris) executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Harrington to third base and Rohan to second. Lojan would pitch out of the jam though getting Jackie Bradley Jr. (South Carolina) to strike out and Elliot Soto (Creighton) to ground out.

Brewster would tally the one and only run of the game in the top of the fifth when Harold Martinez (Miami) hit an RBI single to between first and second base to score Tant Shepherd, who had reached on an infield single to lead-off the inning; and was moved to third on a single by Daniel Butler (Arizona).

Tyler Wilson (Virginia) started the game for the Mets, and was issued the loss, falling to 1-1 on the season. Wilson pitched seven strong innings giving up one run on four hits with five strikeouts. Kevin Moran (BC) came in and threw one strong inning of relief in the eighth before Dallas Gallant (Sam Houston)closed out Brewster in the top of ninth, striking out two in the process.

The Mets would not got down with out a fight though, as Tyler Thornberg (Charleston Southern) issued a lead-off walk to Johnny Ruettiger (ASU), which was followed by a Ryan Cuneo single, and a sacrifice bunt by Harrington to move runners into scoring position. However, Hyannis couldn't bring the runs home as Thornberg pitched his way out of the jam, getting Dan Burkhart to groundout to first base, which was then thrown home to prevent the run, and Bradley grounded into second base to end the inning.

Matt Lojan picked up the win for the Whitecaps and improves to 1-3 on the season. Lojan only gave up two hits and struck out five on the way to his first win of the season. Stayton Thomas (Texas), Fultz, and Tyler Thornberg all contributed to the shutout for Brewster, with Thornberg picking up his fourth save of the season.

The Mets will take on the Falmouth Commodores at Arnie Allen Diamond in Falmouth on Friday at 7 pm after the All-Star Break.

Buchanan Tosses Three-hit Shutout against Mets

HYANNIS - Occasionally a baseball team will come across a starting pitcher who is simply unbeatable for that specific game. On Friday night, Cotuit starter Jake Buchanan (NC State) was that pitcher, throwing a complete game, three-hit shutout against the Hyannis Mets. Buchanan mixed a 90 mph fastball with a solid breaking pitch as he kept Mets hitters off balance all night. The six-foot sophomore allowed only one hit after the second inning and stuck out 11 Mets while throwing over 100 pitches.

The game began as a pitching duel, with Hyannis starter Austin Hudson (Central Florida) tossing nearly six innings while allowing only two runs in the sixth inning. Kevin Brandt (East Carolina) had a strong effort in relief, pitching two and two-thirds innings while giving up only an unearned run. Jimmy Messer (North Carolina) finished out the night for the Mets, recording the final two outs of the ninth inning.

As expected during a complete game shutout, the Hyannis offense was quiet the entire night with no baserunners reaching as far as second base. Dustin Harrington (East Carolina), Jackie Bradley Jr. (South Carolina), and Trent Whitehead (East Carolina) each had one hit against Buchanan.

The Mets will be back in action in Orleans Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Harwich Hangs On, Mets Lose 2-4

HYANNIS- The Mets' offense was shut down tonight during their competition at McKeon Park against the Harwich Mariners (12-17). The only excitement for the Mets (12-16) came in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Johnny Ruetigger (who went 2-3) led off the inning with a single to left field. Jackie Bradley Jr. (South Carolina) followed with a walk to keep the hopeful rally alive. Next, designated hitter Eddie Rohan (Winthrop) ripped a ground ball to third base that only resulted in one out.

With two outs in the inning, Trent Whitehead (East Carolina) crushed a ball to left field that rattled the chain-linked fence. Whitehead reached third while clearing the bases, batting in the Mets only two runs.

Nick Crawford was then walked on a full count, putting the tying run on first and raising the excitement throughout the park.

With Elliot Soto at the plate, the umpire called a pitch, strike two, that the fans highly disagreed with. After the fans (and coaches) settled down the next pitch was thrown. Soto swung and missed, and just as fast as the Mets' spirits rose, they fell.

On a happier note, tonight was the debut of the Mets' mascot, a giant osprey. If you missed our new friend, he will be at the next home game which is tomorrow night against Cotuit. Game time is set for 7 PM. See you there!

Thundershowers Lead to a messy Night for Mets

Wareham, MA- If anything, the thunder showers were on Wareham's side. The Mets lead the ball game 3 to 2 going into the bottom of the fifth, when the Gatemen scored the tying run. The game was conveniently delayed a half an inning later due to lightening, followed by the thunder and rain that comes with it.

After returning to play, Wareham tacked on 4 runs to their score and the Mets were too shaken up from the thunder and lightening to do anything. Either that or it was the pitching. Who knows?

Despite the efforts of the Mets' defense and greatly demonstrated speed in the outfield, they lost 7 to 3. They're back home on Saturday to take on the Whitecaps at 7 PM.

Mets Ride Whitecaps to 5-0 Victory

The Hyannis Mets (12-14) beat the Brewster Whitecaps (10-12) 5-0 on a strong pitching performance by starter Tyler Wilson (UNC, 1-0) and a slew of five consecutive hits in the the bottom of the the sixth inning.

Wilson, who started the game for the Mets was issued his first win of the season, pitching seven strong innings only giving up two hits to the Whitecaps, and striking out seven. Wilson breezed through the first five innings with help from his fastball, which consistantly hit 91 mph; before he gave up a two-out hit to John Barr (Virginia) in the top of the sixth. Wilson would stay in until Kevin Moran (BC) would come in for relief in the eight and pitch one solid inning.

Sean Bierman (Vanderbilt) started the game for the Whitecaps and was issued the loss, his third of the season. Hyannis started the scoring in the bottom of the fourth when Jackie Bradley Jr. (South Carolina) hit a 1-out double to score Dustin Harrington, who had reached base in the previous at bat on a double. The Mets bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth, when they added four more runs on five consecutive hits. Dustin Harrington (ECU) hit a 2-out single to start the rally, and was then followed by Jackie Bradley Jr., and a double by Eddie Rohan (Winthrop) that was scorched to leftfield corner that scored both Harrington and Bradley. Kenny Swab (Young Harris) then laced a single between the Whitecaps second basemen and shortstop and then proceeded to steal second. Swab was then driven home on a double by Elliot Soto (Crieghton) that was absolutely hammered to left-field and fell in over John Barr's head. Stayton Thomas (Texas) came in for relief of Bierman to end the threat. Bierman pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (all of them earned) off of nine hits, and fanning only two.

Dallas Gallant( Sam Houston) picked up his third save of the season, retiring the side in order with one strike-out. Other notables for the Mets tonight included Johnny Ruettiger (ASU) who went 2-for-3, Jackie Bradley Jr. who went 3-for-4 with and RBI, and Eddie Rohan who picked up two RBI's and went 1-for-3 on the night.

The Mets are in action tommorow night at Spillane Park in Wareham at 7pm.

Hyannis, MA- The Mets suffered a loss against the Chatam Anglers, who are now 15-ll. Both sides put on above average pitching performances. Tolleson (Taylor) took the mound for Chatam and the Mets put the ball in the hands of Austin Hudson who leads the team in innings pitched (28) and wins (3).

The Anglers stuck quickly with a leadoff single by Merrifield (South Carolina) in the first. He scored later that inning on a double by Oropesa (USC). The third baseman Mathew Perry ended the inning on a ground ball to the opposing third baseman Dustin Harrington.

In the bottom of the first, Elliot Soto (Craighton) reached on a single. During the at bats of Cuneo and Harrington, he managed to reach third on a stolen base and a passed ball. Unfortunately third base doesn't put runs on the scoreboard. The inning ended when Harrington returned the favor and grounded out to third baseman Mathew Perry.

In the fourth, the Anglers scored one more on an RBI double by Brooks (Wake Forest). The Mets retaliated with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Harrington and Ruettiiger scored on back to back singles by Bradley and Johnson. The Mets almost had a third run score when Tolleson attempted to pick off Johnson on first and Jackie Bradley Jr. broke for the plate. He was thrown out on a call that coach Gassman didn't think was very fair. That ended the inning and the game was tied.

Green of Chatam lead off the seventh with a double. Brooks followed with his third double of the game and tallied his second RBI as well. Brooks advanced to third on a bunt and scored on a passed ball during the at bat of Addison Johnson. That run concluded the scoring for tonight's game.

The Mets went hitless in the last five innings of the game, reaching base once on a walk. The final score was Chatam 4 and Hyannis 2. Tolleson recorded the win and Brewer the save. Relief pitcher Eric Maust (Notre Dame) was charged the loss. The Mets venture to Bourne on Wednesday the 15th.

Mets Hold Off Anglers in Ninth for 4-3 Win

CHATHAM - Hyannis pitcher Thomas Girdwood (Elon) needed help closing out the ninth inning after entering with a 4-1 lead. His teammate Mark Gormlely (Brown) more than got the job done. After Girdwood gave up one run and left the bases loaded with no outs, Gormley recorded the final three outs of the game, including two strikeouts to strand the tying run 90 feet away and give the Mets a 4-3 victory at Veterans Field.

Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) was again the star for Hyannis, jump-starting the offense with a solo homer to right in the first inning. Cuneo hit the ball hard all night, having one potential home run robbed by the right fielder and another die at the center-field warning track. The 6-foot-3 first baseman also contributed an RBI single in the eighth to add to his team-leading RBI total.

Elliot Soto (Creighton), who played second base for the first time this season, knocked in a pair with an RBI single in the fifth to push the Mets lead to 3-1. Johnny Ruettiger (Arizona State) also had a big night offensively, ripping two base hits and stealing two bases.

Jay Brown (South Carolina) started for Hyannis and picked up the win after throwing six and two-thirds innings of one-run ball. Kevin Moran (Boston College), a Barnstable native, followed and pitched an inning and one-third of scoreless relief before Girdwood and ninth-inning hero Gormley closed out the game.

Shortstop Nick Crawford (UAB) made two spectacular defensive plays, both when he ventured into the outfield. Crawford and Soto switched their normal positions with Crawford moving over from second to shortstop and Soto doing the opposite.

Hyannis will be back in action Tuesday night at McKeon park against Chatham at 7 p.m.

Mets lose marathon game in Harwich

The Mets lost 6-5 in 15 innings to the Harwich Mariners in a game that featured Mets outfielder Johnny Ruettiger (ASU) coming in to pitch in extra innings.

Kevin Brandt (East Carolina) pitched five innings of one run ball for Hyannis before being pulled in the 6th inning with runners on the corners in favor of Kevin Moran (Boston College). A controversial run scored when Moran was charged with a balk on an attempted pickoff. The run tied the score a 2-2, where it stayed until the Mets tacked on two more in the 7th.

With one out and runners at 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 7th, Dan Burkhart (Ohio State) lined a two rbi single to put the Mets up 4-2. The lead held until the ninth when reliever Dallas Gallant (Sam Houston) gave up a two out, two rbi double to tie the game at 4.

Both teams remained scoreless in extra innings until the 14th, despite a bases loaded, no out jam for the Mets in the bottom of the 13th. A single and two errors loaded the bases before Chris Haney (Dallas Baptist) was able to induce a force out at home, a pop out, and a ground ball to get out of the inning.

The Mets pulled ahead in the top of the 14th on a two out single by Johnny Ruettiiger. Ruettiiger, an outfielder for the Mets, was then called upon to pitch the bottom of the 14th. He surrendered one run on a two out double, sending the game to the 15th. The game ended in the bottom of the 15th inning when Jeff Vigurs (Bryant) blooped a two out walk off single to center field.

The Mets travel to Chatham tommorow to take on the Anglers at 7:00.

Relief Causes Grief for the Mets

Hyannis, MA- After three wins in a row, the Mets failed to beat the struggling Commodores. The starting pitchers for both teams looked solid through 4 innings. On the mound for Hyannis was the right hander Cole Johnson from Notre Dame. For Falmouth it was Jordan Cooper, from Witchita State. The score at the end of the fourth was tied at one and the opposing pitchers had a combined 7 strikeouts.

Johnson's only mistake through four had been the high fastball to Hunter Morris (Auburn), who belted his third homer of the year. In the fifth, he experienced more trouble after walking Adams (Florida) and allowing the three subsequent batters to reach base as well. Two of those runners scored and he left the game after striking out his seventh. He went 4 2/3, surrendering 3 runs on 3 walks and 5 hits.

For the Commodores, Cooper pitched 5 strong innings, allowing only one run. He gave up 5 hits, a walk and struck out two. With the score at 3 to 1 when he left the game, he was in line for the win.

Messer (UNC) came in to relieve Johnson, for the Mets. After retiring 4 of 5 batters, he fell apart. He only recorded one out in the seventh before handing the ball to teammate Chris Haney. Messer was charged with 5 of the 6 runs scored in the top of the 7th. A two run ball game transformed to a 9-1 lead for the Commodores.

While relief for the Mets only widened the gap in the score, Falmouth pitching improved in the latter innings. Patrick Cooper, Evan Danielli, and Chad Sheppard shut down the Mets with untouchable pitching. From the 6th inning on, the Mets reached base twice and stuck out 8 times, scoring one run on a past ball.

Falmouth won the ball game 10 to 2. The winning pitcher was Jordan Cooper who improved his record to 1-1 and his ERA is still impressive at 1.69 for the year. Vollmuth (Southern Mississippi) had the most impressive batting performance for Falmouth. He went 3 for 5 with a triple and a home run, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Nick Crawford and Jackie Bradley Jr. were the only Mets to not strike out in tonight's ball game, which was all but fun to watch.

Mets Defeat Cotuit 6-3 for Third Straight Win

HYANNIS - Although the Town of Barnstable has always been a two-baseball-team town, the rivalry between the two squads is becoming increasingly one sided. With a 6-3 win over Cotuit Friday night, the Mets improve to 3-1-1 against the Kettleers (8-11) this season, effectively clinching the Patriot Cup for Hyannis (9-11). The Patriot Cup is a trophy awarded to which ever Barnstable Cape League team finishes with a better head-to-head record.

On this night, the Mets offense used a balanced attack as four players had multi-hit games. With the game tied at two entering the sixth, Hyannis received offensive help from some sloppy Cotuit defense. Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) lead off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a throwing error that allowed Dustin Harrington (East Carolina) to reach first base. On the very next pitch, Harrington attempted to steal second, but catcher Cameron Rupp's throw flew into center field, allowing Harrington to reach safely and more importantly score Cuneo from third. Harrington would later score on a Dan Burkhart (Ohio State) single to give Hyannis a 4-2 advantage, a lead that would prove to be too much for Cotuit to handle.

Tyler Wilson (Virginia) started and pitched five innings of tw0-run ball for Hyannis despite allowing eight hits. The relief tandem of Eric Maust (Notre Dame), Mark Gormley (Brown) and Dallas Gallant (Sam Houston) combined for four innings, only giving up one run while striking out eight. Gallant picked up his second save of the season, pitching a perfect ninth with two strike outs. Gallant has now struck out 28 batters in only 17 innings out of the pen while allowing just 10 hits.

The Mets tacked on insurance runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Cody Hawn (Tennessee), who crushed an RBI double in the first inning, chugged all the way home from first on Cuneo's double, his third hit of the game. Then in the following inning, Johnny Ruettiger (Arizona State) lead off with a triple and later scored on a Trent Whitehead (East Carolina) infield hit.

The Mets have now won three straight games, while Cotuit is heading the other direction as they have lost five straight. Hyannis will be back at McKeon Park Saturday night when they take on the Falmouth Commodores at 7 p.m.

Mets Blank Mariners 5-0

Four pitchers combined for a four hit shut-out as the Hyannis Mets (8-11) went on to beat the Harwich Mariners (9-11) 5-0 on a chilly night in front of a crowd of 1,150 people at Whitehouse Field in Harwich.

Seth Rosin (Minn.) started the game for the Mets and picked up the win, his first of the season; going five innings, giving up no runs on three hits and striking-out five. It looked as if the Mariners would strike first as Rosin ran into a jam in the bottom of the third inning when a walk to Marcus Niddifer (Kentucky), a single by Leon Landry (LSU), and another walk to Daniel Grovatt loaded the bases for the Mariners. Rosin was able to pitch out of the jam and end the threat, getting Connor Powers (Miss. St.) to fly-out to Johnny Ruettiger (ASU) in centerfield.

The Mets started their scoring in the top of the fourth when a double by Jackie Bradley Jr. (South Carolina) scored Cody Hawn (Tenn.) who had reached on a walk. The Mets tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth when Kenny Swab (Young Harris) singled to lead off the inning and then reached third on a throwing error by the third baseman. Swab would score on a squeeze bunt layed down by Ruettiger, with Ryan Graepel (UNC) scoring on a broken bat single by Hawn.

Hyannis added two more in the top of the seventh when a walk issued by Cody Hawn loaded the bases for the Mets. Ryan Cueno (Delaware) who had not had a hit on the night capitalized on the oppurtunity and picked up two RBI's on a hard hit single down the right field line, scoring Graepel and Hawn.

Ruettiger, Hawn, and Bradley Jr. all picked up RBI's on the night for the Mets, with Ryan Cuneo picking up two, and Kenny Swab going 2-for-4 at the plate and scoring a run.

Kevin Moran (BC), Mark Gormley (Brown), and Thomas Girdwood (Elon) all contributed to the shutout for the Mets, with Moran picking up three strike-outs in two innings in relief of Rosin. Thomas Girdwood picked up the save for the Mets, his first of the season.

The loss was issued to Eric Jokisch (Northwestern), who falls to 1-1 on the season. Jokisch pitched six innings giving up three runs on five hits and striking out six. Overall the Hyannis Mets scored five runs on nine hits and commited no errors; while the Harwich Mariners scored no runs on four hits and commited one error.

The Hyannis Mets look to take on their crosstown rivals the Cotuit Ketleers tommorow night at 7 p.m. under the bright lights of McKeon Park.

Mets Shutout Firebirds to End Losing Streak

ORLEANS, MA- A solid performance on both sides of the ball helped the Mets (7-11) rise to a 3-0 win over the Orleans Firebirds (10-9) in Wednesday night's game at Eldredge Park. Before last night the Mets had a 3 game losing streak, but during Wednesday's game they looked transformed. The Mets' defense was smooth, their batters disciplined, and their spirits high.

The Mets scored all three of their runs early in the game. In the first inning, Cody Hawn (Tennessee) hit a single that allowed Nick Crawford (UAB) to score. In the second inning, a pair of doubles from catcher, Dan Burkhart (Ohio State) and right fielder, Jackie Bradley Jr. (South Carolina) put another run on the board.

The Mets last run came in the fourth inning. Burkhart reached first on a lead off single to left field. He was then advanced by a sacrifice bunt laid down the third baseline by Johnny Ruettiger (Arizona State). The next batter, center fielder Trent Whitehead (East Carolina), crushed a ball to left field along the baseline to send Burkhart home.

The shutout can be attributed to a fluid defense and powerful pitching. The defense really supported their pitchers, including Elliot Soto (Creighton) who had some spectacular plays at short stop. With great defensive support, the starter Austin Hudson (Central Florida) really thrived. Hudson pitched six innings and earned the win. He retired the side twice, struck out three batters and never gave up a walk. Dallas Gallant (Sam Houston) entered the game in the 7th inning. Gallant struck out seven of the eleven batters he faced, earning his first save of the season.

The Mets will travel to Harwich tonight to face the Mariners (9-10). The next Mets home game is Friday as they look to take on the Cotuit Kettlers (8-9). Both games will start at 7 PM.

Armstrong Overpowering in Win Against Mets

HYANNIS - Before losing a heart-breaker in the nightcap, Hyannis ran into a dominant pitching performance on Monday afternoon. Wareham Gateman starter Jack Armstrong (Vanderbilt) threw a (shortened) complete game shutout. He allowed only two hits while striking out six in his seven innings of work. His fastball topped out at 96 MPH and was clocked in the low to mid 90s all afternoon. Add to that a devastating changeup and an effective curveball, and its no wonder why the Mets struggled.

The Mets only scoring opportunity came in the sixth inning when Armstrong walked two batters, putting men on first and second base. However, the tall right-hander would get out of it with a fly out and a line drive by Dustin Harrington (East Carolina) that went right to the third baseman. Hyannis went quietly in the seventh inning, with Armstrong striking out Kenny Swab (Young Harris) to end it.

Wareham got all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning on a two-run homerun from Zach Wilson (Arizona State), his second of the season. Mets starter Jay Brown (South Carolina) would settle down after the first inning until the top of the seventh when he allowed another homerun to Cole Leonida (Georgia Tech) who led off the inning. His pitching line would be closed, along with the Gatemen scoring later in the seventh on a Derek Dietrich (Georgia Tech) RBI single off of Jimmy Messer (UNC) who relieved Brown. Jay Brown takes the loss going six and 2/3 innings allowing four runs on six hits.

Gatemen Grab Two in a Row from the Mets

Hyannis- In the second game of a double header, the Wareham Gatemen prevailed after an extra inning rally. To ensure time for both games of the double header, each game was 7 innings. Hyannis placed Kevin Brandt (ECU, 1-1) on the mound against Brett Eibner (Arkansas) who pitched for the first time this season.

Brandt ran into some first inning trouble when he loaded the bases off a walk and two hits. He walked Springer (Connecticut), and then let another score on Hannick's sac fly to right field. Finally, he caught Lemmerman looking at strike three to end the inning.

Eibner, who's spent most of his time in the batting order and not in the pitching rotation, retired the first 8 batters that he faced before walking Ruettiger of Arizona State.

Wareham scored another run in the top of the 4th on a solo homerun by Hannick, who tallied his second RBI of the game. The Mets answered back in the same inning. Crawford (UAB) lead off the inning with the Mets' first hit, a single to right field. Crawford used his speed to steal second and Hawn was patient enough to walk. Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) drove in Crawford on a single to make the score 3-1.

Brandt was taken out in the 5th and replaced by Maust of Notre Dame, who managed to keep Wareham quiet in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Mets tallied two more runs on a bases loaded walk and then a dropped fly ball. Crawford was the go ahead run on third when Harrington stuck out to end the inning. The game was tied.

It remained tied until the top of the eighth. Springer walked again and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With a runner in scoring position and no outs, the Gatemen were looking good. Hannick, the hero of the game so far, stuck out and Lemmerman grounded to third. Ryan Pineda stepped up to the plate and knocked in the go ahead run with a single off of Gormley (Brown) who was given the loss after 2 innings of work.

Hyannis failed to score in the bottom half of the inning. They loaded the bases on a hard hit single from Hawn, followed by a deep double from Cuneo and the intentional walk of Harrington. Wareham brought in Kiekhefer (Louisville) who struck out three straight to earn the save. Wareham won 4-3 and Slaats (Hawaii) grabbed his first win of the season. He's pitched 9 and 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out 10.

Hyannis travels to Brewster on Tuesday, July 7th.

Mets Fall Short in Home Run Battle With Red Sox

South Yarmouth-

The Hyannis Mets (6-9) and Y-D Red Sox (11-9) competed in an absolute slug fest tonight, with four homers being hit between the two teams. Including two home runs by Micah Gibbs (LSU), and a grand slam in the top of the eigth by Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) to tie the game. Home field advantage proved to be true tonight as the Red Sox broke the tie in the bottom of the eigth to take the lead 9-8 and win the contest.

The scoring started in the bottom of the first when Tyler Hanover (LSU) blasted a homerun over the left field fence. Y-D added another run in the bottom of the second when Micah Gibbs, batting in the first game of his Cape Cod League campaign crushed a towering homerun over the center field fence. Y-D would add two more in the bottom of the fourth when Austin Wates (VT) reached on a single; then stole second base, and was driven on a Steve Chatwood single. Micah Gibbs added another RBI on a hard hit groundout that scored Mickey Wiswall (BC).

The Hyannis bats finally came alive in the top of the fifth when Nick Crawford (UAB) hit a single to load the bases. Elliot Soto then picked up 2 RBIs on a 1 out single to score Johnny Ruttiger (ASU) and Ryan Graepel (Dallas Baptist). Drew Hayes (Vanderbilt) came in for relief of John Leonard (BC) who started the game for Y-D. Cuneo would hit a single to score Crawford and round out the scoring for the Mets in the top of the fifth. Leonard went 4 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking 2.

Y-D would come roaring back with a four run bottom of the sixth when Steve Chatwood (San Diego) hit a broken bat single to score Wates and Wiswall. This was Immediately followed by a 2-run homerun off the bat of Micah Gibbs, his second of the night, and season.

Hyannis would not be out done though, as two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for Ryan Cuneo in the top of the eighth. Cuneo would capitalize on the oppurtunity, hammering a grand slam to tie the game at 8 a piece.

Jonathon Jones (LB St.) would prove to be the hero though, as he hit a 2 out single to score Chatwood who had reached base on a double; giving Y-D the lead and eventually the win.

Dallas Gallant (Dallas Gallant) was issued the loss going2 2 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits. Tyler Burgoon (Michigan) was given the win going 1 1/3 innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out Dustin Harrington (East Carolina) to end the game.

The Mets look to take on the Wareham Gateman tommorow in a doubleheader at home. The first game starts at 4:30pm at McKeon Park, with the second game starting at 7pm.

Hawn Blasts Mets Past Red Sox

Hyannis' Cody Hawn (Tennessee) drilled two home runs in the first three innings, leading the Mets to a 6-4 victory over the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox on Independence Day at McKeon Park.

In the first inning, Hawn absolutely crushed a homer to right off Red Sox pitcher Jared Ray, scoring Eliot Soto (Creighton) and giving the Mets a 2-1 lead. Two innings later in the third, Hawn sent another deep fly over the right-center wall, yet again scoring Soto to put Hyannis in front 4-1.

Nick Crawford (UAB) completed the scoring for the Mets offense when he lined a two-RBI single down the left-field line, scoring Dan Burkhart (Ohio State) and Johnny Ruettiger (Ariozona State) to give Hyannis a 6-1 lead in the fourth inning. Crawford now leads the league in hitting with a .400 average and Hawn is tied atop the home run leaderboard with four.

Seth Rosin (Minnesota) started on the mound for the Mets and pitched four and two-thirds strong innings. He allowed three runs and seven hits while striking out eight. Eric Maust (Notre Dame), Kevin Moran (Boston College), and Thomas Girdwood (Elon) finished out the game in relief. Maust picked up the win on the afternoon, pitching one and one-third innings of shutout ball.

Hyannis will be back in action against the Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at Dennis-Yarmouth High School Field.

Mets Drop 2-3 Decision to Booming Braves

HYANNIS - The Mets (5-8) and Braves (7-5) both scored early in Tuesday night's game at McKeon park. Unfortunately, the Braves' single run in the fourth allowed Bourne to come out on top 3-2.

The scoring started with two outs in the first. Braves' left fielder, Stefen Romero (Oregon State), singled to shallow leftfield and stole second to put himself in scoring position. The Mets' starting pitcher, Jay Brown (South Carolina), intentionally threw outside on the next pitch to walk the batter, in hope of a force out. However, the Mets' strategy did not work and after two singles the Braves were up 2-0.

The Mets responded in the bottom of the inning with their own two out rally. First baseman, Ryan Cuneo (Delaware), doubled and third baseman, Dustin Harrington (East Carolina), sent Cuneo home with a single; his first of two hits of the night. The Mets tied the game in the third inning with a pair of doubles from Nick Crawford (UAB) and Elliot Soto (Creighton).

What would be the winning run for the Braves came in the fourth inning. Braves' third baseman, Raynor Campbell (Baylor) reached second base on a fly ball to left field that barely fell fair. Then catcher, Tyler Hightower (Mississippi) hit a single to send Campbell home.

Logan Billbrough (William & Mary) earned the win for the Braves, while Stephen Harrold (UNC Wilmington) recorded his third save. The loss for the Mets was issued to starting pitcher, Jay Brown.

Next the Mets will travel to Chatham to face the Anglers (10-5). Game time is set for 7:00 PM.

A Close One Lost in the 8th

Cotuit, MA- In the third meeting of the Hyannis Mets and Cotuit Kettleers, Cotuit squeezed out a victory in a late inning comeback. The final score was 2-1.

The game was destined to be a pitcher's duel, with Chad Bell (Walter State JC, 1-0) on the mound for Cotuit and Cole Johnson (Notre Dame, 1-1) starting for Hyannis. Both pitchers averaged a strikeout per inning in their previous outings and Bell had yet to give up an earned run. Not to mention, both teams have exceptional team ERA's (Cotuit, 2.11; Hyannis, 2.75)

Bell allowed the first run of the game shortly after attempting to pick off Crawford (UAB) on first base. He threw over multiple times and that didn't stop Crawford from taking second when Bell finally did throw to the plate. Crawford scored on a single by Harrington (East Carolina). Bell came out in the 5th, pitching 4.1 innings, recording 3 strikeouts and a run on 3 hits.

Johnson first ran into trouble in the bottom of the 5th. He walked the leadoff batter, Patterson (Auburn), who advanced to third on a single by Plagman (Georgia Tech). Cory Vaughn struck out and Rowland grounded to the pitcher who caught Patterson going for home. With 2 outs and a full count, Bisson (Kentucky) singled to drive in the tying run, Plagman.

Johnson was relieved after 6 innings pitched. He stuck out 8 and allowed 1 run on 4 hits. At this point in the game, neither starting pitcher could snag a win.

After a series of pitching changes in the middle innings, Ben Rowen (Virginia Tech) closed out the game. He inherited two runners in the top of the 7th, but disposed of three straight batters with his submarined style delivery. Rohan, Burkhart and Soto went down swinging for the Mets.

In the Bottom of the 8th, Eric Maust (Notre Dame) gave up a single to Rowland and proceeded to walk Rico Noel. Kevin Moran came in to pitch for Hyannis and with two runners aboard and one out, he deflected a hard ground ball off his glove which made the ball out of reach for the second baseman Crawford. That could have been an inning ending double play and instead Rowland scored from second as the ball dribbled into shallow right field. That was the winning run and the loss was accredited to Maust (0-1). The Hyannis Mets went down without a fight in the top of the ninth. Rowen was rewarded the win.

Mets defeat Falmouth 3-2 in 12-Inning Thriller

HYANNIS - The Hyannis Mets continued their recent hot streak Saturday afternoon by defeating the Falmouth Commodores 3-2 in 12 innings. Hyannis (5-5) scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning when Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) began a two-out rally with a single to right-center field. Following a walk and an error to load the bases, Kenny Swab (Young Harris) struck out, but the ball got by Falmouth catcher John Nester, allowing Cuneo to score the winning run from third.

Mets Pitcher Chris Haney (Dallas Baptist) came on in the bottom of the 12th to lock down the save, but allowed a one-out double to put the tying run in scoring position. Haney recovered to strike out Jason Esposito (Vanderbilt) and get Brian Fletcher (Auburn) to ground out to end the game.

The Mets were originally leading 5-1 in the fifth inning before Falmouth came back to score four runs in the final three innings, including the game-tying tally with two outs in the ninth inning. Cody Hawn (Tennessee) provided much of the offense for Hyannis, crushing a homer to right field in the fourth and adding a RBI single in the seventh. In the top of the 10th inning, Hawn, who leads the Mets with two homers and six RBI in only six games, fouled a ball of his leg and needed to be carted off the field.

Seth Rosin started on the mound for Hyannis and allowed only one run on four hits in five innings while striking out seven. Dallas Gallant (Sam Houston) picked up the win in relief for the Mets as he pitched two scoreless innings without allowing a hit.

The Mets will resume play Sunday night as they hit the road to take on the Cotuit Kettleers at 5 p.m.

Hyannis Shutout in Rain-Shortened Game

HYANNIS - The rain came at an inopportune time for the Mets tonight. In the bottom of the sixth inning, with two men in scoring position lightning filled the sky and play was stopped. After a half hour delay it was called an official game resulting in a Hyannis loss. The loss snapped a three game win streak for Hyannis.

The weather was not the story of this game, however. Harwich starter Rob Gariano (Fairfield) produced the most dominant pitching performance Hyannis has faced this year. Gariano threw five and a third innings of shutout ball, striking out ten batters and allowing only three hits. He established his fastball early, working in an effective changeup and a great curveball. The only trouble he ran into was in the sixth inning when unfortunately for the Mets, the game was called. He allowed back to back singles to Elliot Soto (Creighton) and Trent Whitehead (East Carolina) who advanced to second and third base on a Nick Crawford (UAB) sacrifice bunt. With the Mets number three hitter Cody Hawn (Tennessee) stepping to the plate, the lightning and rain bailed out Gariano right on cue. Although the way Gariano was going on this night, he may not have needed it.

Hyannis starter Austin Hudson (Central Florida) takes the loss tonight. Hudson allowed three runs and scattered six hits through six innings. He allowed two runs in the second inning when he hit the Mariners' Phil Gosselin (Virginia) and walked second baseman Levi Michael (UNC). Gosselin scored from third base when David Herbeck (James Madison) grounded to third baseman Dustin Harrington whose throw was dropped by Dan Burkhardt, the catcher. Michael then came around to score on a Marcus Nidiffer (Kentucky) single making it 2-0 Harwich. The Mariners would score a third run in the sixth inning on a Levi Michael RBI single.

Hyannis looks to avoid the rain and losing two straight at Falmouth tomorrow night.

Rohan Single Gives Mets Thrilling 3-2 Win

HYANNIS - Yes, the Hyannis Mets do still remember how to play baseball. Following a week that included four consecutive rainouts, the Mets needed a two-out ninth-inning single from Eddie Rohan (Winthrop) to complete a 3-2 come-from-behind victory against the Cotuit Kettleers. With the win, the Mets (4-4) have now won three straight games and are tied for second in the Western Division.

Entering the top of the ninth inning with the score deadlocked at two, Dustin Harrington's (East Carolina) walk set the stage for Rohan's game-winning hit. After Harrington advanced to second on a wild pitch, Rohan, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the fifth, lined a single to left-center field, scoring Harrington as the Hyannis dugout emptied to meet the go-ahead run at home plate. Rohan's single was the only hit Cotuit reliever Ben Rowen allowed in his four innings of work.

Hyannis pitcher Kevin Brandt (East Carolina) picked up the win, along with multiple huge outs in his two and two-thirds innings. Brandt produced a much-needed double-play ground out to end the seventh inning with the Kettleers still looking for the go-ahead run. In the eighth, Brandt recieved the defensive support all pitchers dream of. Mets' Catcher Kenny Swab (Young Harris) threw out Cody Stanley trying to steal second and with two outs, second baseman Nick Crawford (UAB) gunned down pinch-runner Mike Nesseth at the plate to end the inning. Then in the ninth, Brandt struck out the final two hitters of the game with Cotuit having a runner in scoring position.

Hyannis originally tied the game in the fifth inning on Trent Whitehead's (East Carolina) sacrifice fly and a Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) single. Cody Hawn (Tennessee) contributed two hits to the Mets' offense, including a double in the fourth inning.

Jay Brown (South Carolina) and Dallas Gallant (Sam Houston) also pitched for Hyannis. Brown started the game and gave up two runs in five innings. Gallant pitched a scoreless inning and a third and has now allowed only one run this season in eight innings of relief.

The Mets will be back in action Friday night at McKeon Park at 7 p.m. against Harwich.
