Behind Starter Cole Johnson (Notre Dame), Hyannis Wins Their Second Straight.

HYANNIS - The Mets got off to a quick start tonight, taking advantage of early opportunities against Cotuit starter Justin Grimm (Georgia). Trent Whitehead (East Carolina) led off the bottom of the first with a walk. After Elliot Soto (Creighton) struck out, Cody Hawn (Tennessee) reached on an error by the second baseman. Following a passed ball, there were runners on second and third base. Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) found the right side with a ground ball to drive in the first run of the night. Jackie Bradley Jr. (South Carolina) then hit a two-out, line drive single to left to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Dustin Harrington (East Carolina) and Nick Crawford (UAB) were on first and second after each reached base with singles. After a double steal, Elliot Soto beat out a slow grounder to third for an infield hit. The throw would get away from first baseman Kevin Patterson (Auburn), allowing Harrington and a hustling Nick Crawford to come in to score all the way from second base.

Four runs would be more than enough for Cole Johnson on this night. Cole went seven innings allowing just one run on three hits while striking out six. Johnson had Cotuit batters off balance all night with a good fastball and a sharp breaking ball. He struck out the side in the second and retired seven batters in a row at one point.

The only blemish for Johnson was a solo home run allowed to Cotuit first baseman Kevin Patterson. The Kettleers also pick up a run in the ninth inning but it would not be enough as the Mets win it 4-2. Justin Grimm takes the loss for the Kettleers.

Barnstable's own Kevin Moran (Boston College) finished off the game earning a two inning save.

Hyannis takes on the Brewster Whitecaps at McKeon field tomorrow night.
