Hyannis Team Coverage 2008Friday, August 1, 2008Mets Walk-Off against Bourne
Dale Cornstubble (Central Michigan) delivered in the bottom of the ninth with a walk off infield single that plated Chris Dominguez (Louisville), as the Mets knocked off the Braves 3-2 at McKeon Park. The win helped Hyannis keep pace with the Cotuit Kettleers for second place in the oh so tight Western Division.
The Mets got on the board first in the very first inning. Trent Ashcraft of East Carolina doubled to lead off game and scored on a Dominguez single. Brown's Will Weidig made a stellar spot start to rest the Hyannis bullpen, going 6.1 innings giving 1 earned run on 5 hits and striking out 5. The Mets took the 1-0 lead to the seventh, when Ross Wilson of Alabama led off with a triple and scored on Justin Bour's (George Mason) single. Ben Paulsen of Clemson answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to put Hyannis back on top. It was Paulsen's 5th of the season. A rough inning for Ashur Tolliver (Arkansas Little Rock) in the eighth tied it back at 2. Marc Krauss (Ohio) scoredon a hit by East Carolina's Kyle Roller. Then in the bottom of the ninth, Dominguez singled with one out, stole second and third, and scored on the Cornstubble single to give the Mets the crucial victory. The winning pitcher was Tolliver (3-0), while David Erickson (2-2) took the loss for Bourne. The Mets travel tomorrow to Y-D on Saturday to take on the Red Sox for the final time this season.
