Commodores End Mets Season

Hyannis- Joey Wong(Oregon State) worked a bases loaded walk with two outs in the top of the ninth to give the Falmouth Commodores a 2-1 lead, two batters later AJ Pollack(Notre Dame) hit a bases clearing double to put the game out of reach at 5-1. Winning pitcher Preston Claiborne(Tulane) pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn his 2nd win of the year.

Falmouth started the scoring in the 5th, when Wong singled scoring David Gustafson(Northeastern) who was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Hyannis responded in the 7th, on a two out RBI double by Matt Nuzzo(Brown) which scroed Casey Frawley(Stetson), who was also hit by a pitch. Jason Franzblau(Arizona State) pitched 7 strong innings allowing just 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 6 for the Mets.

For the second straight year, the Mets(22-22) miss the playoffs by just a few points, while Falmouth will play in a one game playoff against Bourne at 7 pm in Falmouth on Friday, August 8th. The winner of that game will play Cotuit in a best of three playoff to determine the Western Division Champion.

Hyannis 1B Ben Paulsen(Clemson) set a Cape League record, converting every one of his 408 chances this season without an error.
