Trent started 22 games for East Carolina as a freshman in 2008, hitting .273 with three home runs and 15 RBI. When he started the Pirates posted a 19-3 record. Trent earned All-Conference and Team MVP honors his final three years at Washington High School in North Carolina. As a prep senior he hit .475 with 22 stolen bases.
