The Hyannis Athletic Association is a nonprofit volunteer organization that oversees the year-round support and operation of the Hyannis Mets. Through fundraising efforts and thousands of hours donated by an all-volunteer membership, the H.A.A. works behind the scenes at McKeon Park and in the community to ensure that the Mets are counted among the premier franchises in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Volunteers with the H.A.A. perform a myriad of tasks that are necessary to field a Cape League team. They house players in the summer, hire coaches for the team, find jobs for players in the community, and oversee capital improvement projects at McKeon Park. At each game, they collect gate donations and sell 50/50 raffle tickets, perform grounds maintenance and cleanup, operate the team's merchandise mart, and promote upcoming team and league events.

The H.A.A. is an active community supporter, from its membership in the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce to the Mets' free annual youth clinic at McKeon Park. The concession stand at McKeon Park is staffed by the Barnstable High School Marching Band Boosters, which receives a portion of the proceeds for one of its major summer fundraisers. In addition to awarding an annual scholarship to a Barnstable High School student whose extracurricular activities exemplify a spirit of volunteerism and a love for sports, the H.A.A. also awards weekly "scholarships" for its youth clinics to local elementary school students from lower-income families.

To promote the organization through community improvement projects at McKeon Park, the H.A.A. seeks out and receives competitive grants from a variety of prestigious groups. In 2005, the Hyannis Mets were selected as co-recipients of a $300,000 grant awarded by the Yawkey Foundation for improvements to Cape Cod Baseball League diamonds. In partnership with Pope John Paul II High School, co-tenants of the town-owned McKeon Park along with the Mets, the H.A.A. set plans in motion to return night baseball to Hyannis with a state-of-the-art lighting system, slated to be operational for the 2008 CCBL season.

McKeon Park has undergone a dramatic transformation over the last decade through the hard work and dedication of the H.A.A. New bleachers have been added along with a landscaped seating section down the left field line, dubbed "Aylmer's Alley" in honor of team founder Jack Aylmer, that offers some of the best sight lines in the Cape League. Other improvements include a rosebush berm along the main entrance to the park, a batting tunnel beyond the left field fence, and added speakers as part of an improved public address system.

In 2006, the Mets opened the season with an impressive new brick backstop and bricked dugouts, bringing yet another distinctive touch to the league's only park with crushed seashell walkways and a water view from the top of the bleachers. Through the efforts of State Rep. Demetrius Atsalis, the H.A.A. was awarded $75,000 from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for further upgrades to McKeon Park, which the organization envisions as a community-embraced park that links Main Street with the Hyannis Harbor waterfront.
