--HYANNIS--The Hyannis Mets earned their first win of the season Wednesday at McKeon Field against the Wareham Gatemen, who fell by a 2-1 score the the Mets. The Mets now have a record of 1-3-1 overall.

Wareham scored the first run of the game and their only run in the top of the first. Matt Rogelstad (SE Louisiana) had a one-out line drive single into center, making it to third on a hit-and-run single by David Murphy (Baylor). Murphy and Rogelstad then executed a double steal that allowed Rogelstad to score the run. Rogelstad was the leading Gatemen hitter, adding a single in the third inning to go 2-for-5 on the day. 2001 Hyannis Met Jayme Dorr (Trinity) pitched in with a double, and Chris Durbin (Baylor) had an infield hit to round out Wareham's five-hit afternoon.

The Mets tied the game in the second inning, when Ben Harrison led off the inning with a single through the right side, He stole second and moved to third on a Logan Sorensen single, eventually scoring on a groundout by Brian Horwitz. It was Harrison again in the fourth inning, this time hitting a double to right and scoring on a Horwitz double to left to give the Mets their final 2-1 lead. Harrison was 3-for-4 on the day, reaching base in every at-bat. Hits were also added by Mike Griffin and Mike Lombardi.

Mets starter Brian Rauch (1-1) was the winner after a strong starting outing of six innings. He allowed the one earned run on four hits, walking three and striking out five. A three-inning relief outing by Sean Walker was more than enough to earn Walker his first save of the year. He allowed only one hit and one walk while fanning three.

Former first-round draft pick Jeremy Sowers (Vanderbilt) got the loss for the Gatemen to fall to 0-2 on the season. Sowers pitched seven starting innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs with seven strikeouts and one walk. Michael Parisi (Manhattan) relieved him for the eighth inning striking out one and giving up one hit.

Stats of note...Harrison and Sorensen each stole a base, keeping pace with each other in a tie for the team lead with three steals...this game was the Mets' last at McKeon Field until June 28; the next two home games will be played on Nantucket Island and in Sandwich...more on Wareham's Sowers: he was the highest unsigned draft pick in the 2001 draft, picked out of high school 20th overall by the Cincinnati Reds and turning down a reported $3 million signing bonus to go to Vanderbilt.
